Description

Objectives:

The purpose and objectives of this course are to fulfill the AHERA annual refresher requirements for asbestos abatement workers and to conduct training as specified by OSHA and AHERA’s regulations.

  • ASHARA – Asbestos School Hazard Abatement Reauthorization Act of 1990
  • EPA – Model Accreditation Plan (MAP), Worker Protection Rule 40 CFR Part 763, Subpart G, Asbestos-containing Materials in School Rule 40 CFR Part 763, Subpart E
  • NESHAP – National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants 40 CFR Part 61, Subpart M
  • OSHA – Asbestos Construction Standard 29 CFR 1926.58, Asbestos General Standard 29CFR 1910.1001, Respirator Requirements 29 CFR 1910.134

Topics:

The modules in this course satisfy the 8-hour requirement for asbestos workers. The 13 modules cover training areas including: (1) Physical Characteristics of Asbestos, (2) Health & Asbestos Exposure, (3) Employee PPE, Respiratory Protection and Medical Program, (4) Glovebag Demonstration, (5) Surfactant Demonstration, (6) Mini Enclosure Demonstration, (7) State of the Art Work Practices, (8) Personal Hygiene, (9) Federal, State, and Local Government Regulations, (10) Additional Safety Hazards, (11) Air Monitoring, (12) Specific Removal Work Scenarios (an optional module), and (13) Final Exam.

Descriptions:

The course begins with verification of students’ identity and pertinent information and ends with another step of student verification to mark the completion of the course. Students are required to provide documentation of the initial worker training or previous worker refresher course. In each module, students will interact and engage in video demonstrations and pre-recorded video interviews with META’s experienced and certified instructors. Students will be tested on the content covered in each module by providing the correct answers to review questions that are in various formats (multiple choices, matching, true or false, short essay, etc.). Students will upload self-recorded videos or audio files to provide their own understanding and prior work experience with certain work scenarios to reinforce memory and comprehension and engage with the course content.

Certificate:

Students will receive the course certificate in a PDF file within 24 hours upon completion during weekdays and within 48 hours if completing the course on the weekends.
